Katto
Katto was founded by Josh and his close friend Thomas in 2018. The inspiration for this venture emerged during a challenging phase in Josh’s life when he grappled with a breakdown and was eventually diagnosed with acute anxiety. This period was marked by a sense of bleakness, prompting Josh to explore various avenues for healing.
In his quest for recovery, Josh made several lifestyle changes, such as abstaining from alcohol, embracing running and yoga, and diving into self-help resources. He even sought therapy, yet none of these efforts brought him the relief he sought. It was during this time that a friend suggested cooking as a therapeutic activity, citing its absorbing and meditative qualities. Josh decided to give it a try, and he found that time spent cooking or simply pondering culinary creations provided a reprieve from his anxious thoughts.
With this newfound passion, Josh’s initial step was to invest in quality kitchen equipment. He desired kitchenware that combined aesthetic appeal, character, and strong sustainability values. However, he soon discovered that such products were scarce or prohibitively expensive, particularly for individuals like himself who didn’t earn a billionaire’s income.
Over a meal that left much to be desired (a disappointing lasagna featuring undercooked pasta and insufficient bechamel sauce), Josh proposed the idea to Thomas, and Katto was conceived.
